Overview

The Sr. Character Artist reports to the Studio Art Director and is a key member of the Central Studio creative team. We’re looking for a talented individual who is excited by the opportunity to create highly engaging characters for a variety of game projects. We’re looking for someone who is disciplined, professional and comfortable with multiple character art styles.

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the Heatwave creative team, contributing to the creation of exciting new projects
  • Develop high end 3D character models
  • Help set guidelines and develop processes related to the character art pipeline
  • Help develop the visual style and aesthetic of new projects
  • Provide additional 3D artwork as needed
  • Communicate and collaborate well with other core studio disciplines
  • Produce finished art of exceptional quality.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Mastery of Maya, Z-Brush, and imaging applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc)
  • Exceptional texture painting skills
  • Ability to create cutting edge shaders (for real-time use)
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy
  • The ability to work effectively with minimal guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills

Qualification Requirements

  • A Bachelors Degree from an accredited school in Fine Art
    • If you cannot provide this, you must be able to clearly explain your formal training
  • 3 - 5 years experience in the industry
  • 2 - 3 published games credited as a Character Artist with at least one credit as Sr. Character Artist
  • Experience with cutting edge gaming consoles (360, PS3) is preferred
  • A portfolio submissions in digital format (please do not send originals) which includes:
    • Samples of traditional artwork/illustration.
    • Samples of Zbrush sculpts, Maya meshes, Textures (including PSDs when possible)
    • Renders of completed game models

A highly qualified applicant will also have:

  • Experience with Unreal and related tools
  • Multi platform experience (PC, X-Box 360, PS3, Wii, DS)
  • The tendency to make those around them rise to the occasion
  • A sharp sense of priority
  • A clear desire to do top-notch work
  • A very organized personality
  • A willingness to do “what it takes”
  • A sense of humor
