Senior VP of Business Development

Job Description

The SVP of Business Development is responsible for the formulation and execution of Heatwave Interactive’s corporate strategy and reports directly to the CEO.  The SVP will lead a team of executives that will conduct the strategic analysis that drives our business decisions regarding capital raising, strategic partnerships/joint ventures, intellectual property exploitation and brand development.

We are blazing a new trail in media by using interactive games to create broadly-applicable intellectual properties. We are seeking a strong candidate who can help lead us there. SVP candidates should have extensive (ideally, executive-level) experience in brand-building and marketing within the film, video game, or new media industries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Business/strategic partner and advisor to Executives
  • Support executive team in identifying, structuring and negotiating investments, strategic partnerships/joint ventures and other key business relationships (including publisher, distribution, licensing, technology service provider deals)
  • Analyze the strategic impact of potential partnerships and structure terms that mitigate risk and optimize revenue and profit
  • Communicate industry opportunities to management and help facilitate internal enhancements designed to best position the company for success
  • Understand Heatwave’s capabilities completely and effectively articulate the value proposition.
  • Understand partner’s unique needs and business models to negotiate deal structures/contracts
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders during deal initiation, due diligence, negotiation, and integration processes
  • Ability to lead project-specific deal teams and manage direct reports
  • Managing ongoing partner relationships, communications and reporting
  • Actively contribute to leadership, coaching, and development of entire Business Development organization
  • Manage all business strategic partnerships, planning and assisting with fund raising activities
  • Prepare/lead strategic analysis that helps drive business decisions related to capital raising, strategic partnerships/joint ventures, intellectual property green lighting, etc.
  • Actively participates in process to raise capital for general corporate purposes and game development (e.g., single game and basket financing).

General Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a business development executive (VP level or higher)
  • Overall 10-years relevant experience with a demonstrated track record of success
  • Bachelors Degree from a top-tier school in Finance and or Marketing. MBA Preferred

Experience/Skills/Requirements

  • Significant executive experience (VP level or higher) in business or corporate development role within an entertainment or media company - ideal candidate will have significant experience in interactive gaming, media or filmed entertainment industry
  • Demonstrated experience as a business/strategic partner and advisor to C-level executives
  • Strong strategic thinker and thought leader with ability to think outside the box - Heatwave’s strategy is pioneering for the Interactive Entertainment business
  • Considerable experience in analyzing, structuring, negotiating and managing complex joint ventures, strategic partnerships, investment and other business relationships
  • Experience with brand development and management
  • Deep understanding of traditional, new media and interactive gaming business models
  • Superior leadership, management, organizational and people development skills
  • Executive presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills required - particularly within sales and negotiations
  • Experience in a fast-paced, growing and dynamic work environment - start-up history is a plus
  • Experience successfully raising capital for interactive or filmed entertainment companies/projects is a plus
  • Experience and competency in the following areas: financial modeling and analysis
  • Extensive rolodex with access to relationships within advertising, private equity, gaming, and publishing
  • Advanced PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc
  • Key personality traits: self-starter, strong work ethic, detail-oriented, high integrity, respectful, mature, team player, entrepreneurial spirit, objective, fair
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of new and traditional media including interactive gaming, film, television, music and the Internet
  • Passion for Interactive Gaming in general and Heatwave Interactive mission in particular.
  • Reside in or willingness to relocate to Austin, TX
